An American Werewolf in London (1981) -- 21st Anniversary Special Edition    An American Werewolf in London is a cult classic comedy horror film from 1981. At the time of its release the film broke new ground by showing the viewer a detailed transformation of man into werewolf  (the scene took a week to film). There had never been a werewolf film quite like it...  (read more?)

A Warning To The Curious (1972)

A Warning to the Curious is based on a story written by M R James and, like The Signalman, it was first screened as part of the BBC's popular Ghost Story for Christmas series. The story is set on the Norfolk coast, where there is a legend... (read more?)

Boo (2005)  Two college couples - Freddy and Marie, and Kevin and Jessie, decide to spend Halloween at the deserted Vista Mira Hospital. What the girls don't realize is that the guys have sent their friend Emmett ahead of them to prepare a few Halloween surprises ... (read more?)

Bride of the Monster (1955)   The opening credits for Bride of the Monster roll against a backdrop scene of a very spooky looking house on a stormy night. The rain lashes down, the lightning flashes and it looks like it has the making of a very good film. For me looks were deceptive and I didn't enjoy the film very much... (read more?)

Chopper Chicks in Zombietown (1991)    When an all-girl motorcycle gang called the Cycle Sluts arrive at the small, desert town of Zariah they are looking for a little R&R and some 'meat' and I don't think that last one has anything to do with a tray of mince and half a pound of sausage. Well. not the mince anyway.  Unfortunately for the 'meat' seeking girls what they find instead is a whole load of trouble... (read more?)

Count Dracula (1977)   There have been countless adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Some of them are more watchable than others, some border on the unbearable, and a few even cross that border and are less undead than they are just dead. Or should that be dud. The 1977 version produced by the BBC and called Count Dracula, is one of the better versions. Perhaps even the best. Louis Jourdan... (read more?)

Demenita (1955)  Dementia was made in 1955. It is a black and white film and is unusual in the fact that it has no dialogue at all. It works very well without any too... (read more?)

Flowers in the Attic (1987)  Flowers in the Attic did not get the best of reviews when it first came out in 1987 and a lot of people criticized the film for the drastic alterations that had been made to the plot in an attempt to avoid some of the controversial elements found in the book. At the point of writing this review I have not as yet read the book, and so I can only call it as I see it, and I must say that I really do like the film... (read more?)

Freaks (1932)   Freaks is a 1932 horror film set in a circus. The story is based on Spurs (written by Tod Robbins) and focuses on the lives of the 'freaks' who perform in the sideshow acts. Tod Browning produced and directed the film... (read more?)

Horror of Dracula (1958)   Although Horror of Dracula is based on Bram Stoker's novel the story is very different. In the novel Jonathan Harker visits Castle Dracula in order to help the Count purchase some property abroad. In Horror of Dracula, though, Harker arrives at the castle under the pretence of wanting to work as the Count's new Librarian... (read more?)

House of Voices (2004)   House of voices is set in the French Alps in 1958. The opening scene shows a rather basic looking children's dormitory in the St Ange orphanage. It is night and outside a storm is raging... (read more?)

House of 1000 Corpses (2003)   House of 1000 Corpses is a very bloody and extremelyy gory film. In the 1980's it would probably have been labelled as a video nasty. Some very nasty stuff happens in the film and so I suppose that hat would have fitted. It is a very disturbing film, yet it is... (read more?)

Long Weekend (1978)   Long Weekend is an Australian horror film starring John Hargreaves and Briony Behets. They play a married couple, Peter and Marcia, whose relationship is in difficulty. Peter decides that he and Marcia need some time alone together and... (read more?)

Mesa of Lost Women (1953)   If you are looking for a good horror or sci-fi film, then you had probably better keep on looking, Mesa of Lost Women isn't it. It's okay, if you have nothing better to do, I suppose, and if you can stand the terrible backing music... (read more?)

Night Gallery (The Complete First Season)  The Night Gallery first season package consists of 3 DVDs. Each DVD has its own slim-line case and all three are then slipped inside a cardboard sleeve cover ... (read more?)

Night of the Demon (1957)   First of all I think I should explain that this DVD does not contain two films, but two different cuts of the same film. Night of the Demon is an extremely good British horror film from 1957. It was filmed at the Elstree Studios, is based on  M R. James' short story Casting the Runes and has a runtime of 95 minutes... (read more?)

Psychomania (1971)  Psychomnia. What can I say? I love it. If films about violent zombie bike gangs are your sort of thing then you might like it too... (read more?)

The Car (1977)   The Car is a horror film from 1977, starring James Brolin and Kathleen Lloyd. Obviously, I won't surprising anyone when I say that it is about a car; and like the car in John Carpenter's Christine, this vehicle seems to have a life of its own... (read more?)

The Changeling (1980)   After his wife and daughter are killed in a road accident composer John Russell (George C. Scott)  moves out of the family home and leases an old mansion. It's kind of a big house for the old guy to be rattling around in on his own, but it turns out that he isn't as alone as he thinks. The house is haunted... (read more?)

The Dark (2005)  If I had to categorise The Dark, I'd call it a supernatural thriller. It doesn't have a large cast but it is an effective one and plenty of sheep come flocking in, for the part of extras, under the careful supervision of Elvis the sheepdog ... (read more?)

The Giant Spider Invasion (1975)  Hillbilly farmer Dan Kester tells his wife Ev that he is going to the revival in town, but goes to see his mistress instead, and while the fire and brimstone preaching minister at the revival blasts out his speech against sin, Dan just concentrates on the sin... The Hearse (1980)    Not only has Jane Hardy recently got divorced, but her mother has just died too. It is also probably not surprising that she feels like getting away from things for a while and she decides to take a vacation at her aunt's house... (read more?)

The Lucifer Complex (1978)   Wow! The Lucifer Complex. What can I say? It really sucks. I had expected it to be a pretty good film because Robert Vaughn stars in it. Well, I was pretty wrong about that, I can tell you... (read more?)

The Signalman (1976)     Between the years of 1971 and 1978 the BBC ran a very popular TV series called A Ghost Story For Christmas. It was an unusual series in as much that it aired only one episode a year. The ghost story offered in 1976 was The Signalman... (read more?)

The Stepford Wives (1975)   The 1975 film The Stepford Wives is based on Ira Levin's novel of the same name. (read more?)

The Tenant (1976)  The first thing I have got to say about Roaman Polanski's The Tenant is that it's a damn good film. The second thing is that it's a damn confusing film. After I had finished watching it, I was forced to sit and think, and try to decide if it is the story of man who is slowly losing his mind or if something more sinister was going on... (read more?)

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me  What can I say? It's like Twin Peaks only not as good, although it does answer a few questions about the series... (read more ?)

Witchboard (1986)    All the trouble starts at a party, but perhaps that's not unusual because trouble often finds its way into such gatherings. What is unusual though, is that the trouble is not a punch up, a cat fight or a slanging match. The trouble at this particular party has Ouija written all over it...  (read more?)
