Death at Storm House (A Story from The Sealed Book)

This story from the Great Sealed Book is set in an old New England Mansion named Storm House, perched high on the cliffs above the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Lysette Lester, the young and beautiful owner of the house, is lying in her bed, dangerously ill, while a wild storm rages outside. Lysette was born in a storm and she has been waiting for this one so that she can die in a storm as well. Her husband will receive everything when she dies, including Storm House, on condition that he lives at the house at least six months out of every year for the rest of his life. Lysette also insists that her husband, John, should not remarry. If he does, Lysette tells him, she will be very angry, and further warns him that she is capable of terrible things when she is angry.

As per her wishes, John buries his wife in the grounds of the house. Then he heads off to New York for the winter, hoping to concentrate on his painting, which he had neglected since his marriage.

Once he is away from Storm House John regains his inspiration to paint. He also finds love again, is soon married, and returns to Storm House with his bride, Nora. This may not have been the smartest of moves because it appears that Lysette does not rest easy in her grave and she is very angry about the new woman in John’s life. Needless to say, terrible things happen.
