Edgar Randall is not a scientist. He is just an ordinary man who is vice-president of a small town bank, but he conducts experiments in this basement as a hobby.

Mr Randall’s wife Kathy does not appreciate his hobby. She is often tempted to throw all of his ‘paraphernalia’ away because she is sick of him smelling the house out with all of his chemicals and burnt-out fuses. When she tells their son Bill how she feels, he jokes that the experiments may make them all rich one day. The experiments fail to make them rich, but one day Mr Randall accidentally discovers a secret that is so amazing and so terrifying that . . .
