The House on Lost Man’s Bluff (A Story from The Hermit’s Cave)

The House on Lost Man’s Bluff is a haunted house story. It begins when three travelling companions have car trouble and find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere. When the weather takes a turn for the worse they need to find somewhere to shelter. Fortunately, one the group, Denton, is familiar with the area and he knows a place where they can go.

When the trio arrive at the house, however, Denton deserts his wife and brother-in-law and barricades himself into one of the rooms. Strange behaviour indeed; but not as strange as the maniacal laughter that Nan and her brother Charles hear coming from behind the closed door. If it’s Denton who is laughing, he must have lost his mind. If it is not… well… that could be a lot worse.
