The Pall Mall Magazine

The Pall Mall Magazine Vol. XXVIII, No. 144 (October 1902) - Cover

The Pall Mall Magazine was a British literary magazine published monthly between 1893 and 1914. Each issue included short stories, poetry, and serialized fiction. Pall Mall magazine was also known for the quality of its illustrations and published the artwork of many of the most prominent illustrators of the day including Edmund Joseph Sullivan and George Morrow.

At the time, the quality of illustrations in British magazines tended to be poor compared to those published in the USA. The Pall Mall Magazine is notable for being the first UK magazine to publish art of similar quality.

The Pall Mall Magazine published original ghost stories written by many well-known including E. F. Benson and M. R. James. It also published works by many other renowned and upcoming authors (of that time) including Rudyard Kipling, H. G. Wells, and Robert Louis Stevenson. Many of the ghost stories that  appeared in the magazine’s pages are included in the public domain texts section of this website.

In 1914, The Pall Mall Magazine merged with Nash’s Magazine to become Nash’s Pall Mall Magazine. The last issue was published in September 1937.
